Living under the constant threat of poverty, people here have been easy victims of the usurious money lenders. However, on March 21, 1976 a nationalised bank arrived on the Sunder bans shores for the first time. It was a floating bank aboard a boat. This "bank for the people" gradually brought happiness and prosperity to poor folks.
