Vasco port in Goa, The motor ship Thuleland from Sweden has been chartered by the Department of Ocean Development to launch the 8th Antarctica Expedition led by Dr. Amitava Sengupta. Animation explains the technicalities involved in the expedition. The film is a comprehensive demonstration about what goes into taking up such an adventurous expedition. Scientists from the Department of Ocean Development and the National Institute of Oceanography study samples of water. All communications are done via satellite.

NM0129 : More Than A Success Story

"The News Magazine highlights the SSC Examination results in Maharashtra. It depicts the success stories of four students in the State. Master Mangesh Tukaram Mahaskar, a slum dweller from suburb of Bombay scored 96% marks and topped the state merit list. Blind brothers Ghanshyam and Vinod Asudani from Nagpur Division ranked 16th and 17th respectively in the 1988 SSC Examination. Miss. Asha Chandrakant Thete from Thane scored 76% marks. She was stricken with blood cancer. She died of her illness very recently.

Usha hands over the torch of freedom to the Prime Minister. The outstanding sportspersons who have won laurels for the country in national and international sports events are honoured by the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister flags off the Delhi Marathon, 1988. He also participates in the run. National Stadium is the destination of the marathon runners.

Large crowds gathered on the banks of the Brahmaputra at Dibrugarh, to wish the two brave youths - Salam Biswas of Bengal and Shyamalesh Roy of Assam, who have constructed a vehicle capable of operating on both land and water. Soon after India got its independence, it faced the great challenge of joining all scattered princely states into the Union of India. The princely states were of various shapes and sizes. They varied in size from the large states such as Hyderabad and Kashmir to the smallest one which was less than 1 sq. km. in area with annual revenue of Rs.450 only. This film provides an interesting account of how all the princely states were finally united into one united state of independent India.
